What's going on?

Hi Everyone! I thought we'd finally update the Colyn family blog as it has not been changed since 2006. Times are a changing.
We will try some new things to keep everyone interested and to maintain some sense of order around here. There is some social media integration for posts to be shared through Facebook, Twitter, etc. A Search function, so make sure you add labels to your posts for future reference.
Please be patient the next little while if things move around a bit, and be sure to let me know if you like or dislike whats going on.
Oh, and keep up the good posts, everyone! If you need any help logging in or posting, just contact me anytime... ~John

November 28 Proverbs 6:6-11

Somass '80
Go to the ant,O sluggard;
consider her ways and be wise.
Without having any chief,
officer or ruler,
she prepares her food in summer,
and gathers her sustenance in harvest.
How long will you lie there,O sluggard?
When will you rise from your sleep?
a little folding of the hands to rest,
and poverty will come upon you like a vagabond,
and want like an armed man.

Christmas card of the month..

Auld Lang Syne???

Hello everyone.....I am wondering if there has been any firm plans for the location of the New Years eve party? We'd consider it again if there are no takers. Also have we decided the $ limit to be $25 per kid and adult?
I know there is a hockey game in Port tonight but if anyone is around this evening we are going to the Golden Dragon with mom and dad ....we'll probably be there around 5:30 or 6 and then later we'll be gamblin away playing mom's Texas Hold 'em.....come beat us! Looking forward to the get together tomorrow.

Colin catches another bad guy.

The excitement never ends in Port Alberni.
Today just as I was leaving to pick up the kids from school,
I heard a truck coming down the road very fast. Wheels
screeching he takes the corner just past our house,
crashes into a parked car, swerves to the other side
of the road and crashes into another truck. He then
continues to speed down the road. Colin and his dad,
who were working on the house, run out, jump into the
truck and with the help of many observers coming out
of their houses track him down a block away. Colin
entered the house, showed his badge and waited for the
on duty police to arrive. The guy was about 17 and
seemed to be a real angry dude. The scary part of all
this is we fianlly decided that our kids could walk
home from school. Now I'm back to being an
overprotective mom.

back at it!

In a week and a half I will be starting a new job at St. Josephs hospital here in Comox. I have been hired as casual in the ambulatory surgical/medical unit. It has been 3 years since I last worked but I am quite excited to get back at it. Anyone up for me practicing IV insertions or injections this weekend?? We are coming for the party on Sunday!

Names for Kids' Christmas Presents

I think the limit Yvonne suggested of $25 per person at Christmas sounds good, but I have forgotten the kids names we picked! Did someone create a master list?? I thought I was in luck when I found 2 names in Anna's car seat, but then I found 2 in her pocket and a couple in her bed . . . . .

Far Away Land

Nice work on the recent Blogs, I feel far way from all the wine and oysters, It's tough when I'm the only one working for THE MAN. John sorry about the truck, Aliza the kitchen is going to be awesome.
P.S. This is my ventriloquist daughter Anna and her partner Dummass..... sounds just like Thomas if you say it fast. See ya .... Henk

It Happened Again!

Well John is at the flower auction today driving his pickup and he comes out at 9:00am to find that someone tried to steal his truck during the auction. It was locked, but they got in and racked the steering column. His portable dvd player is also gone.
So many phone calls later to the police, icbc, home, and Al is on his way to coming home. Thanks to road star his truck will be towed to Port Alberni claim center and Al is taking him to budget to get a cargo van to come home with.
Where were you Colin when he needed you this time!!!!
Alls well and ends well.
Maybe we should ride bikes!

Renovation update.

We have gutted the kitchen now, and have set everything up in the basement which has been working out well. Hanna thinks we are poor people now because our house is in shambles again. After we finish the whole thing we will be poor people!! We have lots of help from Colins Dad Terry. The rest of the wood floors get finished next week then the cabinets a week later. So we have lots of drywalling and painting to do. Fun, fun, fun.

So Many Oysters ....to much wine

Well we had a great time in Tofino, the weather was amazing. Thanks Willem for the great picnic on the beach and the bubbles in the hot tub. Word of advice....don't squirt a bunch of palm olive dish soap in a Hot tub, that was just soo crazy, but sooo funny. I have never eaten so many Oysters in my life but they were mighty tasty.

CELEBRATION - 2 Colyn Girls and a Pig Skin !

Hey Colyn Family:

Everyone is invited to Kiara's and Amy's Birthday Party on Sunday November 27 at Jake's home. Here is a bit of the run down on the day:

2:00 p.m. - cake and coffee. Please don't come early because we
are at a meeting with Kiara at 1:00 p.m. Also, there is
Candlelight play practice right after church, as well.
3:00 p.m. - kick back in a comfy chair for the Grey Cup Game which
will be viewed on a 50 inch T.V. Wow!
Intermission - will be dinner - burgers, hot dogs, salads, etc.

Please bring your own "beverage" of choice, plus if you have a snack item to add to the "Grey Cup Buffet Table" - that would be great.

Thanks. See you all on Sunday!

- Mitzie and Helle.

Regarding Christmas

For our Christmas party I was just wondering what the price limit is. If I could have some input that would be great. I thought we raised it to $30. last year, but I can't remember. The kids are $20? Someone refresh my old memory please. Thanks.

We are off to eat Oysters

Well, I am glad to see some new entries. I was beginning to think the Blog had become a thing of the past.
We are off to Tofino to pig out on oysters tonight (we as in, Colin, Aliza, Willem, Helle and Vern Phillips). We are going to eat all kinds of oysters cooked all kinds of ways. It will be great. We will be blogging pictures tomorrow I am sure.

Until then.

Oh if i could have them all back

Will suggested that we go to rotterdam, Here at the market we found a gas burner going full blast cooking mussels. There was at least 15 people all going full time eating what was probably 1 pound each in a bowl. after waiting for an opening in the stand We just dug in right along side of them. The vendor was super busy and had at least 6 people working.

If so maybe someone (Henk?) could bring your truck to the airport for you on saturday instead of
Going all the way to Langley and back to the ferries.

Prost from Rotterdam!

Hi all. This is a quick note on the goings on of the 3 amigos in Holland.
Today we toured the Nolet distillery in Schiedam and got a personal tour from one of the
family members in the distillery, Wow, that was cool! They make the Ketel 1 genever & vodka there.
At the end of the tour, he gave us each a litre of Vodka and Genever (They don't usually give
liquor away at the factory, but we walked out of there with about 150 bucks of free booze.
Who says miracles don't happen? Must have been Will's charisma and Al's fluent dutch..
Now to enjoy our newfound booty.
We are all okay.. Also toured Katwijk and Rijnsburg today (Flora)
Will keep in touch,
John

My Beautiful Launderettes

Nothing but Clean Fun this Halloween eh? Some people did scream when they saw the laundry room coming at them. Some offered us 'dirty laundry' but otherwise it was a nice clean evening. It is amazing that Halloween is truly the one time of the year when you can boldly go about invading peoples homes.

It was nice to see all the pictures of all the cousins in costumes. Keep it up.

It Runs in the Family!!!

The Blogger door has been opened for all your 'best' shots!

Looking forward to your visit mom and dad! .....Henk too?

Happy Halloween

Sara and Kiara went trick or treating around our neighborhood and scooped a fair amount of candy. Sara was happiest that in the morning her pumpkin was still alive, as in the past it usually gets destroyed by pranksters.
