What's going on?

Hi Everyone! I thought we'd finally update the Colyn family blog as it has not been changed since 2006. Times are a changing.
We will try some new things to keep everyone interested and to maintain some sense of order around here. There is some social media integration for posts to be shared through Facebook, Twitter, etc. A Search function, so make sure you add labels to your posts for future reference.
Please be patient the next little while if things move around a bit, and be sure to let me know if you like or dislike whats going on.
Oh, and keep up the good posts, everyone! If you need any help logging in or posting, just contact me anytime... ~John

Stereo Pugs..

Last night while driving to a movie,
Yvonne spotted a young pug
wandering 3rd avenue in busy traffic.
We figured the safest thing would be to
take him home and bring him to the
spca in the morning..
As for rodney, he got a
new friend for a sleep over.

A bunny tale.....

So....here we have #1, 2 and 3 of 9 bunnies that have been caught or killed in our backyard over the past week. Yes NINE!!! I have made 3 deliveries of bunnies to an unamed location. Ed has been working hard to rabbit proof our backyard and just when we thought we had the problem solved these sweet little ones started appearing from under our deck. I think there is only one left. Ally and William are expert bunny catchers now so this last one doesn't have a chance. Mr. William turned 2 yesterday....his first words in the morning after I told him it was his birthday were ..."cake?....blow candles??"
Our backyard seems to be a haven for the lost and helpless. This is Ally's robin that can't fly :(
Thomas and William waiting for a popscicle from Aunty Rachel
Thanks everyone for all the great postings. I love to see pictures of the kids as they change. Thanks Darren for the nice Father's Day entry. That was great. Makes us love Opa that much more. Enjoyed seeing everyone home for the weekend at Yvonne's. Thanks for hosting it Yvonne. Otherwise nothing new. Just wanted to show my appreciation for the great family we have.

Wow Henk, that 's quite the camera!

Our Good Dad

Happy Father's Day Dad. Thanks so much for who you are and all that you have done for us. Thanks for helping bring us into the world and for creating a wonderland on Strick Road. Thanks for blue bookies and for teaching us to work. Thanks for cows and chickens and pigs. Thanks for life on the nursery where you not only raised plants but us as well. Thanks for slinging us over your shoulder when you played pool. Thanks for trips to Vancouver and countless days off school. Thanks for rides in the tractor and for teaching us how to rake. Thanks for sharing your faith with us and teaching us that true faith is what you do when no one is looking.

Of course, you were not our Perfect Father (Forgive us when we think you should have been.) We all know there is only one Father who is perfect - and He is yours as well - and today we give thanks that our Perfect Father gave you, a good Dad, to us. We love you.

Darren

Eet Smakelijk!

Well, that was a fun weekend. Thanks John/Yvonne and Willem/Helle for hosting everyone. Next weekend - Sunday June 18 Jake and I will host everyone after church for a luncheon for Father's Day and Aalysia's and Emma's Birthdays. We hope that you can make it. Consider this your invitation! Several people asked me for recipes over the weekend, so here they are:

Boterkoek (Almond Tart)

2/3 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp almond flavouring
1 egg beaten
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup slivered almonds
Mix first three ingredients together. Add beaten egg - except for 2 tsp. Sift flour and baking powder together and add in with the other ingredients. Press this stiff mixture into a greased pie plate. Brush the remaining egg mixture over the top. Sprinkle on the slivered almonds. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 - 30 minutes. Cool.

Layered Salad

1 medium head of lettuce with some spinach or Romaine mixed in if you wish
1 cup sliced celery
3 hard cooked eggs, sliced
10 oz. fresh or frozen peas
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
4 green onions, sliced
6 oz. water chestnuts, sliced
8 bacon slices, cooked and crumbled
1 cup cheddar cheese

Dressing:
1 cup mayonnaise
1 cup sour cream
2 tbsp granulated sugar

Shred, cut or break lettuce into small pieces in and 9x12 pan. Scatter each layer in order given (except the bacon and cheese). Mix the Dressing together and spread over the top being careful to seal right to the edge of the pan. Scatter grated cheese and bacon over the top. Seal with plastic wrap. Store in the fridge at least 8 hours. Serve.

more of bas the tsunami killer

Bas heading out to shoot the tube

Let's whoop it up Rijnsburg style!

Ok gang - let's make this happen. Corrie and Mitzie have both offered their places for the festivities. Seeing as most people are in PA, I think it makes sense to have it there. How about Saturday, June 10th? From the blog it seems that Anthony and Jacqueline are in. I know we are in. How about you losers on the mainland? Think you could make it over here to celebrate your dad's 75th in style? Let's talk people!

For Allan..

Limnanthes douglasii
"Poached egg plant"
Common Meadowfoam
Annual grown from seed
Height 6-8 inches
Native american wildflower..
