What's going on?

Hi Everyone! I thought we'd finally update the Colyn family blog as it has not been changed since 2006. Times are a changing.
We will try some new things to keep everyone interested and to maintain some sense of order around here. There is some social media integration for posts to be shared through Facebook, Twitter, etc. A Search function, so make sure you add labels to your posts for future reference.
Please be patient the next little while if things move around a bit, and be sure to let me know if you like or dislike whats going on.
Oh, and keep up the good posts, everyone! If you need any help logging in or posting, just contact me anytime... ~John

I'm Back!!

This some Muscari Latifolium at the Keukenhof Gardens. I went there twice, lots of nice pictures and way to many people.

Here is Carl and I in North Holland at one of the biggest bulb growers in Holland. They have over 450 acres of bulbs planted, 200 acres alone are Hyacinths. We buy quite a few varieties from them, pretty amazing to see so much of one flower.

I thought these dudes were sweet! Check out Mr. Van Halen with the huge guitar.

Another picture inside Keukenhof (Kitchen Garden) pretty awesome, it was probably the best week to visit, every person you passed by was speaking a different language, LOTS of Germans!!!

This is just around the corner from the Van Noort warehouse, rode here on my bike and took a few pics.

All in all it was a good trip, it was way more work and very little fun time. It's not quite the same as going with a contingent of Colyn's, ie..... no fighting and less drinking.

Glad to be home.

Spring Time!

Anna went on a preschool field trip last week to a local farm.
Here are a few shots:
Anna and a baby bunny.

Thomas and a kid.

Anna strangling Thomas.

We are all well . . . Henk is in Holland for the VanVoorts at the moment. Whenever I get a taste of the single-parent life, it really gives me huge respect for single mums! Life is quite busy with my new job, but we have finally figured out childcare and so that is a big relief.

Does anyone know the Colyn camping dates this year?? We are determined to make it this year. Hope you all enjoyed the beautiful day today:)

"Fly Like an Eagle ..."

I don't know if you've heard of the video-cam on an Eagle's Nest that is on Hornby Island. It is quite interesting. I finally was able to track down the site: www.infotecbsi.com You can go to this site to watch the comings and goings of the Mother and Father Eagle as they sit on their eggs. If all goes well, the babies will be born April 25 or 26 or 27. Incubation period is 36 days for Eagles. The male and female take turns sitting on the eggs. The female is the one with the deeper voice. Enjoy!

Sunday Togetherness

This Sunday Helle and Willem would like to host a get together after church to celebrate Amy & Emma doing Profession of Faith, and also Ella's 17th birthday. Helle will be making a turkey, Aliza will do a Ham, and if everyone could bring along something to add to the lunch that would be great. ex. salad, vegie dish, buns. Please bring your own drinks.

If there is time left in the day, we are planning a nice hike to the Boy Scout camp.

see ya Sunday.

We have decided to invite whoever has nothing planned to our house on Monday for a potluck Easter dinner. We will be in Port Alberni over the weekend and need to be back Monday morning. I will let you know what to bring when you let me know if you are coming. I'll be doing the rabbit and carrots.

See you soon, hope you can make it!!

For some reason I am unable to post the picture that goes along with the previous post. You'll have to come here on Monday to see it :)

mother Teresa...

So you may have heard a bit of my negativity towards the abundance of floppy eared folk in my neighborhood... not the old folks but the RABBITS!

Here are a couple of pictures to show you why these creatures are lured to my street. You see this is Teresa and she loves bunnies!! She comes out daily with the sweetest voice you've ever heard and talks to the rabbits and feeds them right out of her hand. They are getting fat on carrots and apples that Teresa happens to peel for them.

This picture of her is taken from my bedroom window which is across the street so I lost a bit of reslolution when I did the zoom cropping. I decided that it would be best not to ask for a picture as she might wrongly assume that I thought her actions were cute and picture worthy.

Don't get me wrong I like Teresa and I like rabbits I just don't like the two of them together especially when I am trying my hand at what I should know a little bit about ....gardening! It's hopeless!

Hard workin momma..

I figured I should post something up for my lovely wife..
Here she is in her element, up to her arms in flowers.
Doing what she does best, pretty much everything.
Happy Birthday, dear.
John

Ummm?

Now I am curious! What IS Helle whippin up here??

Birthday pics....

Those of us who are posting pictures for birthdays are sort of brave thinking that we might remember all the birthdays in our family!! I think we forgot to post one for Aaron....this is the best I have. What a charmer!!

Happy birthday Aaron !!!

Here is another picture of the birthday girl. This picture reminds me of those days when Aliza and I would sneak away to your and John's house for secret bang cuts and very daring perms.

Happy birthdayYvonne!!

Happy Birthday Yvonne!

Sorry this is the most recent picture I have, look at her so sweetly enjoying her cup of coffee. Doesn't look like she can get a word in between oma and Helle. Ok John, post us a beautiful one for your girl.
Happy Birthday Yvonne, we love you.
