What's going on?

Hi Everyone! I thought we'd finally update the Colyn family blog as it has not been changed since 2006. Times are a changing.
We will try some new things to keep everyone interested and to maintain some sense of order around here. There is some social media integration for posts to be shared through Facebook, Twitter, etc. A Search function, so make sure you add labels to your posts for future reference.
Please be patient the next little while if things move around a bit, and be sure to let me know if you like or dislike whats going on.
Oh, and keep up the good posts, everyone! If you need any help logging in or posting, just contact me anytime... ~John

Looking forward to seeing y'all at the homestead come New Year's Eve.
How much acetylene you got Jake?

Merry Christmas everyone

Well, this one is actually from Hella. I think Willem is hooked on the blog as you probably can all tell.

Anyways, our evening is over and the kids have finally gone to bed. Now we will catch a few winks before we arise early to be at church by 8:45. Everyone had a great evening and we stuffed ourselves silly with food and goodies. Abbie and Uncle Johnny got the almond in the rice pudding. Abbie was pretty thrilled since the had no idea what was going on and where did that big wad of stuff in my desert come from? But when she saw her prize (chocolates) she was pretty excited.

Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas wherever you were at. Looking forwards to seeing you all at New Year's. Can't wait. Extend wishes for happy holidays to your significant other's family from ours.

Love you all.

This little light of mine......

Real tree, real candles, real scary! We had four little candles burning on the tree.
Next time I will call Gieco and save a bunch of money.

Three wise women

The girls at Heids. No I would not let Norman hug them

I'll be home for Christmas

After our Christmas eve dinner we would usually go for a walk with the kids down the road singing carols or go to Heids with the little ones to see all the lights. This year we didn't see the the old man in his red suit but we did run into one of his little helpers on a day pass.
After Norm and I had embraced, we talked about old times and living out in Beaver Creek.
He then asked for a lift to Nanaimo.... go figure?

Nice!!!

Hope your new tattoo matches the old one Willem!!!

Merry Christmas Mom and Dad

Merry Christmas everyone.

Hey, does anyone know where Opa and Oma are?
Mrs. Seydel from the Bread of Life called, she needs someone to help make Turkey soup for two hundred on Christmas Day. She was looking for Alice. ( Supposedly Rita or Dwayne gave her your name? ) I'll tell Vera that Oma is helping out at "Our Lady Corrie the Turkeemeltors' " parish in Comox. Have a great day and God bless you, each and everyone.

Beaver Fever in the Creek

As many of you know we ( Water Board ) are having trouble with our water in the Beaver Creek area.
So we have now had to resort to using the the last of our champagne to flush our toilets.

Oma supports PETA

After Oma tried on this beautiful fur coat in Vegas last spring she knew something wasn't just right.
The lable said that "No animals were hurt or injured during the processing of this garment"

So it must be a fake! And to think some people would pay $25,000 for this 'yussie'

As a great admirerer of the artist I recommend the viewer take note of the painting to the left of the masterpiece. Be that with a slight squint to the right. Holding ones breath and bladder simultaneously.Truly something to behold and beheld.

ChronicWHATcles of Narnia

hey this was on saturday night live its pretty funny i thought i would post it.....

You Can See It Here...

Two, no Six , no Twelve, Bakers Dozen!!
I told you that I'm crazy for the cupcakes cousin...

a christmas story

Once upon a time there was a flower shop. This flower shop sold many beautiful poinsettias. One day someone called the flower shop and said that there was a lizard running around her house. She said that while she was having coffee that morning she watched this lizard come out of her poinsettia and scramble away on the table. Well, the next day the happy customer brought this beautiful lizard back to our store and was very generous and decided to leave it with us. The happy family bought a terrarium and some other accessories including some dried up flies and some living crickets. Today the happy family is one member larger and from the 10 original crickets we now have only three left.

the end

Another satisfied customer..

Here's Jake picking up his tree.
Come & get 'em, guys.

Get out of the valley!

Hey Gang,

I thought I'd let you guys down in the valley see what you have been missing.

After visiting mom and dad for lunch in foggy Port Alberni today Samuel and I stopped at the top of the hump for this pic. It's been this blue in Duncan for the last little while.

Aliza and Colin it was great to see your new kitchen. It looks super! Your living room too. Real cozy.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the big shin dig.

Will there be dancing in the greenhouse?

In the Spirit of Giving..

This year we've decided to give every
Colyn family member a free tree.
If you have the time to get to Port
and say 'Hi' within the next week,
You can pick out your own fresh-cut
quality tree (any type) at our Nursery.
Hurry before they're all gone.
Merry Christmas Everyone.

New Year's Ladies Brunch

'eh girls! I have phoned around Port Alberni to various Restaurants, and not many are doing a New Year's Brunch. So, I have booked for 10 ladies at The Best Western Barclay in the Stamps Cafe. They have Brunch going from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Keeping in mind that Yvonne reminded me that it is a Sunday, we are booked in for after church at 12:00 noon. I hope that this is OK with everyone. Let me know really soon if this is not going to work for you. Otherwise, see you there!

Lost & not yet found

We are currently experiencing a technical proble with our image uptake....

In other words we lost our camera......

While we were at a Christmas LightPark Evening, less than two minutes after I took a picture my I realized that the camera was gone I am not sure if it was lost or stolen out of my side pocket from my jacket.

Any ways does any one have any news on any good models or other info

pls advise

Willem is a member

Hello everyone. I can now post in my own name.

First to complete the project

Here are pictures of our family doing what we love to do. Amy and Sara are playing soccer on their last Saturday game before Christmas and Ella is working at the deli. Willem is showing off his wonderful landscaping and I am burning CDs at work. So come on the rest of you. Get with the program. Let's see some families.

Oyster Gala in Toquart

Willem says:
The tides for the whole week are not great. At the Grey cup game "we" talked about everyone being able to be there on Friday, December 30. For Friday the lowest tide is at 6 p.m. at 1.3 ft. The morning low tide at 5 a.m. is a doable 6.2 ft. We can hopefully harvest most of the oysters if we get there early around 6 am. at the latest. We would have to be on the road by 4:30 a.m. (Maybe draw staws and send out a recon team to gather the oysters early?)High tide is at 11:14 a.m. at 12.8 ft. so it rises about 1 foot an hour from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Boots are needed to harvest oysters above 5 ft. Other options we have are going possibly the Thursday afternoon before hand and hitting the beach at about 3-4:00 p.m. but it gets dark around this time and it would be hard to have our little do in the dark. Friday afternoon's low tide is at about 6:30 p.m.

My personal recommendation is that "Alices' Ten" gather early 4:30 am Friday morning and head out in the two trucks ( five in each cab) for a grunt of a good time!!!

Everyone pleasea reply with a comment to this blog so we all know who will be coming. Unfortunately, some of us may not be able to make it so it would be nice to make any possible changes ahead of time.
