What's going on?

Hi Everyone! I thought we'd finally update the Colyn family blog as it has not been changed since 2006. Times are a changing.
We will try some new things to keep everyone interested and to maintain some sense of order around here. There is some social media integration for posts to be shared through Facebook, Twitter, etc. A Search function, so make sure you add labels to your posts for future reference.
Please be patient the next little while if things move around a bit, and be sure to let me know if you like or dislike whats going on.
Oh, and keep up the good posts, everyone! If you need any help logging in or posting, just contact me anytime... ~John

Summer Lov'n

We put in a patio in our back yard; the grass was never good under the apple tree and there was lots of wasted space before. It has been an excellent place to sit out in the evenings and have meals outside. I guess I satisfied the dutchman's need in me to lay bricks - Thanks to Darren for the finishing touch.

Birthday wishes

Well, I just thought I would send a few wishes to the birthday girls. Trudy, Sara and Rachel, I hope that you all enjoyed your birthdays. And a happy anniversary goes out to Jake and Mitzie. Hope you did something fun. What a lot to celebrate in 4 days. (Sorry Jake and Mitzie, I couldn't find a picture of you two. I will have to remember that for next year.)

Bowser Pictures

Ella wanted me to post some pictures of Bowser. Little late, but better late than never. This will bring back some fond memories for everyone, I think.

These are all the kids that camped for the weekend from youngest to oldest.

Here are the girls enjoying the paddle boards. The water was perfect
all weekend with it being high tide all day and flat calm so the kids
could really enjoy swimming and boating, etc.

A couple of beautiful beach shots. Remember the dock. Here we are
waiting for the tide to come in so we can pull it up for the winter.

Remember the many great seafood feasts we used to have. Even the
kids want some. Clams, oysters and thanks to Willem and Garrett, even
some yummy fresh fried fish.

Flickr

I am hoping this works!

www.flickr.com/photos/cornelia2006

Flickr is a photography site that allows people to display their photography. I have enjoyed numerous hours (usually after midnight) browsing very talented peoples photography.....I am trying to learn more.
I decided to open a site to share our pictures with friends and family.
Enjoy!

Thanksgiving Sunday Dinner at Jake's

Jake is inviting all the Colyn's for Thanksgiving Dinner here at the old homestead on Strick Road on Sunday October 8. We will be eating about 3:00 p.m. Hope everyone can make it. We haven't heard of any other plans. Please let us know if you can make it and what you are willing to bring towards the dinner. We hope to invite Sid and Brenda and Anna as well. Let us know as soon as possible.

Peanut Envy

We planted a bag of peanuts in our garden this year. Only one plant made it and here is our bountiful harvest! Still it was pretty neat to see how they grow. I think there are three big ones that I can roast.

Sam 'n Ally

A few weeks back we stopped by to visit the PA church camp at Rathtrevor. When we wanted to leave we couldn't find Samuel. Finally we found him and his guilty accomplice hogging the gatorade behind the van.

More pictures. (Last ones)

Here are a few more pictures of us.

We all thought it would be fun to color our hair. Sara did her tips and I did streaks of my kids' favorite colors.

Willem and a couple of his friends from Hunky Bills.

Simone and Sara having a blast crashing into each other. I think we went on this ride 8 times in a row. It was fun.

Last but not least, Willem and Thomas. Heim. We really enjoyed staying with you guys, Henk and Rachel, and playing with the kids. Thank you.

More pictures

Well, I will try to make this one better. Not sure why there is a big gap in the other one.

Here are more pictures.

Some people are too cheap to buy the real picture, so they take a picture of the picture.

The roller coaster was again the funnest ride there for most of us. Willem and Al are really enjoying themselves.

Willem wanted to try see how well he could do on the bikes. Not too well as he almost fell off. Oops. But he did manage to hang onto the bike.

PNE anyone?

Well, not quite sure what we were thinking strapping ourselves into these contraptions. Didn't have enough time to change our minds. It was quite thrilling and scary, too. Glad I did it, but don't need to do it again.

The girls are enjoying some rock climbing determined to make it to the top. Some did, some didn't. But it was fun either way.

10 Years Ago Today

Today is our anniversary and we still fondly remember how
you all made the big trek all the way to Edmonton to be with us. Thanks!

some summer pics

Yes it has been a wonderful summer!! Love the hot weather!!

Have a great week settling into school kids!!

Fall Happenings - Rice Tafel and Stuart McLean

The Colyn Family Blog
Wow - what an awesome Summer this has been! Now that the children are heading back to school this week, it does make us take a look at the calendar and start writing down events for the Fall - the Bulldogs Games, for example! Jake and I have found two events coming up and we are wondering if there is any interest from others to participate as well.

1. Qualicum - Old Dutch Inn Rice Tafel - Saturday Oct. 21. Two sittings - 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.. Cost - $24.95/person.

2. Stuart McLean - Live from The Vinyl Cafe. Nanaimo Port Theatre - Wed. Oct. 11 or Thurs. Oct. 12 @ 7:30 p.m. Cost is $40.50/ticket. (Special guest - Murray McLauchlan.)

Anyways, let us know by Sunday September 10 so we can book the numbers.

Have a great week settling everyone into school, etc. It is Fall Fair in Port Alberni this weekend coming up, if anyone wants to come to town to take in the parade (Sat. 11:00 a.m.) and fair.
