What's going on?

Hi Everyone! I thought we'd finally update the Colyn family blog as it has not been changed since 2006. Times are a changing.
We will try some new things to keep everyone interested and to maintain some sense of order around here. There is some social media integration for posts to be shared through Facebook, Twitter, etc. A Search function, so make sure you add labels to your posts for future reference.
Please be patient the next little while if things move around a bit, and be sure to let me know if you like or dislike whats going on.
Oh, and keep up the good posts, everyone! If you need any help logging in or posting, just contact me anytime... ~John

If you go to Google Translate you can have a Dutch guy read you anything you want in Dutch.

My favourites are:

"Your sister has a wobbly leg"
"My Mom used to sell chickens to a local wizard"
"Justin Beiber is a small elf dressed as a boy"

New Years Eve party

Hello family....

As we are getting things ready for the big Colyn party we are hoping that you can help us to be ready for you. I need to know a few things....mostly who is coming and where you will stay.

This is a loose plan....I am open to having you crash wherever but if you want a sure place here are the options...

*our basement floor space can probably sleep about 10-15 people ( I am thinking older neices and nephews or any of you that don't mind sleeping in a crowd). You will need to bring a sleeping bag and something soft to sleep on. This is also the dance floor so it might be late before you can claim a spot for the night :)

*Friends of ours are leaving town and have offered up their house. They have several rooms as they are a family with 4 kids. I still would like you to bring your own sleeping bags so that we have less to clean up afterward. They live about 5 kms away. This space can be for those of you who want to have a decent night/morning sleep. Coming back to our house for breakfast.

The rooms that have been claimed are...
*Mom - Henry's bedroom

*Henk's family in our boys bedroom

*Darren's family in spare bedroom/basement

*Aliza's family in Ally's room/ basement

Please let me know if the rest of you would like to have a spot on one of our couches or 4 more can claim the Westfalia (we will try to put a heater in there).
There is plenty of space for any of you to park a trailer as well. Hella has reserved our driveway but there is still more room there too.

Saturday activities -
Brunch for all the mom's - Westerly Inn
Brunch for Dads and kids - Chez Howard de Monsieur Edward

OZONE tubing on Mt Washington

Pizza dinner and games night for anyone wanting to keep the party going :)

we will have a gift exchange of $20 for adults and kids - get your names from Hella and Amy

That is all I can think of for now......I will post an update after Christmas. Please let me know your choice of sleeping arrangement mostly if we should utilize my friends house.

Willem will you take charge of the firepit for the night? Ed will be shaking Martinis for you.

thanks guys....we look forward to a great time as always

Corrie

Marhaba from Dubai

Here is the Mosque that is one block away from Marty's and Trudie's home. We toured through another Mosque - the Jemeriah Mosque - which is an educational centre to teach people about the Islamic Faith - the five pillars of Islam. There seems to be a mosque every few blocks!

We took a Desert Safari that included a camel ride, henna, holding a falcon, and of course - lots and lots of sand. It was a bit crazy flying over the sand dunes in a Tahoe! You have to ask Jake about the Bedouin Dinner we had that included Shwarma's!

Here we are on the top of the Burj Kalifa - the tallest building in the world! We are on the 124th floor. That is the highest that the public can go - the viewing platform - and what a view it is! When the recession hit Dubai, the city ran out of money to complete this project, so Abu Dhabi (the capital of the United Arab Emirates) put up the money to finish this building ... with a hitch. The building was originally to be named the Burj Dubai - t-shirts, souvenirs, etc. were already made ready for sale for opening day - but Abu Dhabi insisted that the building was now to be renamed the Burj Kalifa. Apparently this was a huge disappointment for the citizens of Dubai, but that was the only way that this project could be completed.
Anyways, we are having such an amazing time here in Dubai - what a city! Marty and Trudie and the children have shown us all around Dubai - including Ski Dubai (Shaen and I did that), to the Jemeriah Beach, out to the tip of "the Palm", shopping at the Souks and Malls, a Dhow Dinner Cruise, etc. etc. We have lots of pictures to show everyone when we get home!
