What's going on?

Hi Everyone! I thought we'd finally update the Colyn family blog as it has not been changed since 2006. Times are a changing.
We will try some new things to keep everyone interested and to maintain some sense of order around here. There is some social media integration for posts to be shared through Facebook, Twitter, etc. A Search function, so make sure you add labels to your posts for future reference.
Please be patient the next little while if things move around a bit, and be sure to let me know if you like or dislike whats going on.
Oh, and keep up the good posts, everyone! If you need any help logging in or posting, just contact me anytime... ~John

A bunny tale.....

So....here we have #1, 2 and 3 of 9 bunnies that have been caught or killed in our backyard over the past week. Yes NINE!!! I have made 3 deliveries of bunnies to an unamed location. Ed has been working hard to rabbit proof our backyard and just when we thought we had the problem solved these sweet little ones started appearing from under our deck. I think there is only one left. Ally and William are expert bunny catchers now so this last one doesn't have a chance. Mr. William turned 2 yesterday....his first words in the morning after I told him it was his birthday were ..."cake?....blow candles??"
Our backyard seems to be a haven for the lost and helpless. This is Ally's robin that can't fly :(

  1. Thought you might need this Corrie and Ed,

    3 Rabbits cut into pieces
    1 c Flour
    1/4 c Olive oil
    1/2 c Onions, chopped
    2 Garlic clove, minced
    1/4 c Wine, sherry, dry
    1 c Chicken broth
    1 c Game marinade, strained
    1 t Thyme
    1 t Sage
    1 t Cayenne pepper
    1/4 c Parsley, minced
    Salt & pepper to taste

Dust pieces in flour and shake off excess. Brown in olive oil on all sides
in a large black iron pot (My prejudice). Remove and keep warm. Add onions
and garlic to same oil; cook until clear, not brown. Drain off excess oil
and replace rabbit. Pour on sherry. Add broth and strained marinade. Bring
to boil then reduce heat to simmer, covered, for 1 to 1-1/2 hours.

  2. That recipe sounds fantastic!! I'll bet that by keeping the rabbits in that nice-looking pink box with NO amenities or even adequate food, those rabbits are getting real mean and vicious. I hear that makes the best rabbit stew -- the adrenalin's running real high when you slaughter them (do prefer the hunting knife or the pistol, Cor?) and it makes the meat all tender. Awesome strategy, Cor. Do feel a certain allegiance to Elmer Fudd lately?

Hey, Helle, remember that time at Easter at your house when Anthony was dressed up in that hideous homemade Easter Bunny mascot, and Aalysia and Emma were absolutely stricken with deathly fear!! seems it had to do with Jake's escapades in Opa Couwenberg's cabbage patch. Speaking of which, Cor, I think Jake may have some insight into varmint control.

toodle doo -- hope to see some of you in p.a. tomorrow... jacqueline
